A recent statement by Dr. Moses Paul has reignited discussions on visionary leadership in Nigeria, as he reflects on Mr. Peter Obi’s 2022 visit to Egypt and its relevance to the Federal Government’s current policies.
In June 2022, Mr. Obi embarked on a three-day visit to Egypt to study the country’s advancements in electricity generation, education, and financial services. During his trip, he visited the New Capital Power Plant in New Cairo, observing how Egypt successfully doubled its power generation capacity from 20,000 megawatts to over 40,000 megawatts within four years.
“At the time, his proactive approach was met with criticism and mockery by detractors who failed to see the value of learning from proven successes. Yet today, the Federal Government is pursuing a comprehensive partnership with Egypt, focusing on sectors like agriculture, energy, telecommunications, and infrastructure—essentially mirroring Mr. Peter Obi’s forward-thinking initiative,” Dr. Moses Paul stated.
He further criticized the current administration for what he described as a lack of vision and inconsistency. “It is telling that what was once dismissed as unrealistic is now being adopted as official policy. This shift exposes the lack of vision and inconsistency of the current administration, which ridiculed a strategy they now seek to emulate,” he added.
Dr. Moses Paul concluded by emphasizing the need for leaders who take decisive action rather than react only when circumstances demand. “Nigeria needs leaders with the courage to act decisively and the wisdom to learn from global successes, not those who only follow when reality forces their hand,” he remarked.
The statement has sparked conversations about governance, policy direction, and the importance of proactive leadership in shaping Nigeria’s future.
