The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a one-month ultimatum to developers along the Lagos shoreline to regularize their projects or face the revocation and demolition of illegal structures. This directive was announced by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, during an inspection of developments along the Lagos Lagoon Estates and other shoreline projects.
The government is targeting unauthorized land reclamation and constructions carried out without proper approvals or documentation. Affected developers are required to comply with federal regulations, which include obtaining appropriate titles and permits. This enforcement is a collaborative effort between the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government to ensure that all developments align with legal and environmental standards.
Additionally, the government plans to regulate shoreline properties under the Land (Title Vesting) Act of 1975, while the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority will oversee dredging permits.
