The Federal Government has announced plans to review electricity tariffs for customers in Bands B and C, citing disparities in current pricing structures.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, revealed that under the existing framework, Band B customers, who receive between 17 to 18 hours of electricity daily, are charged N63 per kilowatt-hour. In contrast, Band A customers, with only two additional hours of supply, pay a significantly higher rate of N209 per kilowatt-hour.
Describing the current tariff system as “unfair,” Adelabu emphasized the need for a review to establish a more balanced and equitable pricing model. He assured Nigerians that the government is working towards a tariff structure that better reflects service delivery and consumer affordability.
The proposed review comes amid ongoing concerns over electricity affordability and supply reliability, with many Nigerians calling for a pricing system that aligns with actual power distribution.
