The Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Leena Pylvänäinen, has disclosed that Simon Ekpa’s actions were a significant hindrance to bilateral relations between Nigeria and Finland. This revelation was made during a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
Ekpa, a self-proclaimed Biafra agitator based in Finland, has been accused of inciting unrest and enforcing sit-at-home orders in Nigeria’s southeastern region. These activities reportedly disrupted economic and social stability in the affected areas.
Ambassador Pylvänäinen emphasized Finland’s commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic ties with Nigeria and reiterated her government’s disapproval of any actions by individuals undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty or causing instability.
“We value our relationship with Nigeria and cannot condone activities that hinder peace or the development of bilateral ties,” Pylvänäinen stated.
In response, President Tinubu commended Finland’s cooperation in addressing the situation, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and collaboration between the two nations. Tinubu further emphasized Nigeria’s determination to safeguard its territorial integrity and protect its citizens from external influences that may incite unrest.
The meeting underscores both nations’ commitment to fostering positive diplomatic relations and addressing challenges that may threaten their partnership.
