Kaduna, Nigeria – Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has provided a ₦50 million grant to support 1,000 female petty traders in Kaduna State. The initiative, executed under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), aims to strengthen small-scale businesses by awarding ₦50,000 to each beneficiary.
During the event, Senator Tinubu also launched the distribution of 10,000 professional kits for midwives across the North-West region. The benefitting states include Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara. The kits, consisting of medical scrubs and footwear, were donated by an anonymous global benefactor to support midwives in their healthcare roles.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State commended the First Lady’s intervention, emphasizing the critical role of midwives in reducing maternal mortality, especially in underserved rural areas. He noted that the provision of medical kits would improve hygiene standards and infection control in maternity care.
The Kaduna empowerment scheme aligns with similar initiatives launched by the First Lady in other states. In Kwara State, 1,000 female petty traders recently received ₦50 million to boost their businesses. Additionally, in Borno State, 5,000 women affected by flooding were supported with a ₦250 million recapitalization grant.
Senator Tinubu reaffirmed her commitment to economic empowerment and healthcare support for women across Nigeria, pledging continued assistance to those in need.
