Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the traditional title of “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu” in recognition of her contributions to national development, women empowerment, and promotion of peace across the country.
The title, meaning “The Rare and Beautiful Jewel of Enugu”, was bestowed upon her during a grand cultural ceremony held in Enugu State over the weekend. Traditional rulers, political dignitaries, and cultural enthusiasts gathered in large numbers to witness the historic event.
In his remarks, the presiding royal father described the First Lady as “a dignified mother of the nation whose compassion, service, and leadership have touched countless lives.” He added that the title reflects the gratitude of the people of Enugu for her visible commitment to the upliftment of communities, especially in the areas of education and social welfare.
Speaking at the event, Senator Tinubu expressed deep appreciation for the honour and pledged to continue advocating for equity, unity, and the advancement of all Nigerians. “This title is not just a recognition of the past,” she said, “but a call to do more for our people, especially the most vulnerable.”
The conferment comes at a time when the First Lady is championing several grassroots initiatives under her “Renewed Hope Initiative”, aimed at alleviating poverty and supporting marginalized groups.
Cultural displays, traditional music, and fanfare marked the colourful ceremony, further strengthening ties between the presidency and the people of the Southeast.
