Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has advocated for specific constitutional roles for deputy governors in Nigeria. He made this call during a conference of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria. Ganduje’s proposal is aimed at reducing conflicts between governors and their deputies by giving the latter clear responsibilities, thus ensuring they have meaningful roles in governance. He stressed that this would keep them engaged and prevent unnecessary tensions that often arise due to a lack of defined duties.
The event also highlighted the need for better collaboration between governors and their deputies in nation-building. Participants, including other prominent political figures, emphasized the importance of unity, respect for the constitution, and effective governance.
