Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has formally resigned from his position as Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ending his tenure after 17 months in office.
The resignation, confirmed on Saturday, marks a significant development within the presidency’s political advisory structure. Baba-Ahmed, a prominent public affairs analyst and former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum, was appointed in 2023 and served under the Office of the Vice President.
Although no official reason has been publicly disclosed, sources close to the presidency suggest his resignation may be linked to internal disagreements over key policy directions and political strategy.
Baba-Ahmed expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration, stating that he remains committed to national development and good governance. His exit comes amid growing political tensions and realignments as the Tinubu administration continues to grapple with mounting socio-economic challenges.
The presidency has not yet announced a replacement.
