Idris Elba has revealed his long-term plans to relocate to Africa and invest in the continent’s infrastructure and creative industries. The British actor, with roots in Sierra Leone and Ghana, is planning to build film studios in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Accra, Ghana, to boost Africa’s film industry. He also envisions creating an “eco-dynamic city” in Sierra Leone to drive tourism and development.
Elba is passionate about nurturing African talent and believes that the continent can support his ambitious goals, which include creating a “Zollywood” film industry that rivals Hollywood and Nollywood. He has expressed his desire to relocate to Africa within the next decade to oversee these projects firsthand, saying, “I need to be on the continent to make this happen.”
These initiatives align with Elba’s mission to elevate African storytelling and provide financial opportunities for local creatives, while also contributing to the continent’s growth through sustainable infrastructure projects.
