India and China have recently struck an agreement aimed at reducing tensions along their disputed Himalayan border, specifically the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Both countries agreed to expedite the withdrawal of troops from key areas, as well as to maintain peace and stability in accordance with previous agreements.
This move follows high-level diplomatic talks and reflects efforts to resolve the long-standing military standoff, which has seen tens of thousands of troops stationed in the region since 2020.
The decision to disengage comes after a series of meetings, including a crucial one between Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Both nations emphasized the importance of restoring normalcy in their relations by ensuring peace along the border, a key step for improving broader bilateral ties.
