An investigative panel set up by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reported that popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, served her six-month prison sentence in full, dismissing allegations that she spent any nights outside prison. The panel was formed following claims from social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who alleged that Bobrisky had received preferential treatment, including a bribe of N15 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges.
Bobrisky was sentenced on April 12, 2024, for violating Nigerian currency laws and was released on August 5, 2024. The inquiry revealed no evidence to support claims that she had slept outside prison during her incarceration. Uju Agomoh, a member of the panel, confirmed that Bobrisky was transferred between several correctional facilities during her term but ultimately served the full duration within the prison system.
Despite clearing her of these specific allegations, the panel noted that Bobrisky enjoyed several privileges while in custody, including access to private facilities, visitors, and amenities such as a fridge and television. The investigation suggests the need for further scrutiny of the conditions and treatment of inmates to prevent any potential corruption or discriminatory practices.
