Israel’s security cabinet is meeting to decide how to respond after Iran launched over 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on October 1, 2024. This attack marks one of the most serious escalations in recent years between the two countries. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Iran “made a big mistake” and will “pay for it,” but Israel has not yet finalized its course of action.
The missile strike, which targeted cities across Israel, came after Israeli forces conducted a military operation in southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah fighters are based. The situation has raised concerns of a larger regional conflict, with Hezbollah and Hamas voicing support for Iran’s actions. The U.S. has stepped in to support Israel, with additional American troops and defense systems being deployed to the Middle East to provide assistance.
Both Israeli and American air defense systems worked together to intercept many of the missiles, limiting the damage.
