In a significant move to enhance workers’ welfare, the Kogi State Government has officially approved a new minimum wage of N72,500, marking a substantial 219.70% increase from the previous wage of N33,000. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo announced this decision following recommendations from the minimum wage implementation committee, which negotiated with organized labor representatives.
The new wage structure is effective immediately and will also include consequential adjustments across all civil service grade levels. To further support workers, the governor has instituted a one-year tax holiday on these increments, meaning no Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax will be deducted during this period.
