Lagos, Nigeria – January 31, 2025 – Prominent Lagos-based organizations, including the League of Concerned Lagosians (LCL) and the Good Governance Initiative, have publicly declined to support Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election. Instead, they have endorsed Dr. Tunji Alausa, the current Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, as their preferred candidate.
In a statement released on Thursday, the LCL emphasized the need for a candidate with a proven track record in public service and a deep understanding of the challenges facing Lagos State. They highlighted Dr. Alausa’s extensive experience in the health sector and his commitment to social welfare as key factors in their endorsement.
Similarly, the Good Governance Initiative praised Dr. Alausa’s dedication to public service and his vision for the future of Lagos. They expressed confidence that his leadership would bring about the necessary reforms and development to address the state’s pressing issues.
These endorsements come amid ongoing debates about the political future of Lagos State. In November 2024, the Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths rejected the endorsement of Seyi Tinubu by another group, citing concerns over the marginalization of indigenous Lagosians and emphasizing the importance of electing a candidate with deep roots in the state’s communities.
Dr. Tunji Alausa has not yet publicly responded to these endorsements. As the political landscape evolves, stakeholders and residents alike are closely monitoring potential candidates and their platforms in anticipation of the 2027 governorship race.
