In a heartfelt Father’s Day tribute, Nigerian public commentator and advocate, Dr Mo, has lauded Mr. Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, for his integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to selfless leadership.
According to Dr Mo, conversations with Mr. Obi reveal the depth of his leadership philosophy one rooted not in position or power, but in personal character. “Leadership is first about who you are. Your life must be worthy of emulation because the younger generation is watching,” Obi is often quoted as saying.
Dr Mo emphasized that attempts to tarnish Obi’s image consistently fail, not due to a lack of effort, but because of the glaring absence of scandal. “No misconduct. No dark records. No skeletons in the closet,” he said.
Obi’s academic background remains transparent, spanning over ten top global institutions, and his public service record as Anambra Governor is often cited as exemplary. He left office without owing salaries or pensions, refused to take loans, and left billions in state coffers a rare feat in Nigerian politics. He also led the state to rank number one in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
On criticisms of his dress style and simplicity, Dr Mo recounted an instance from their trip to Indonesia where Obi returned with just a few modest shirts. “I wear whatever suits me,” Obi had responded when asked about his frequent choice of black clothing. His wardrobe, mostly tailored in Awka and Aba, reflects a deeper value system of humility and focus on the essentials.
Dr Mo concluded with a strong message: “What does his dressing have to do with the real challenges facing this country? Instead of such trivialities, we should focus on competence, character, and vision all of which Mr. Obi possesses in abundance.”
The tribute ended with a resounding Father’s Day greeting: “Happy Fathers’ Day to all REAL fathers out there, especially to @PeterObi, a caring and compassionate FATHER!”
