
A significant fire incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after a petrol tanker overturned and exploded near the Ibafo section. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the loss of control. The resulting petrol spill ignited after a few moments, quickly spreading flames into the surrounding area, including a nearby community.
The fire damaged several vehicles, including four tipper trucks parked at a fuel station, and caused structural damage to buildings in the vicinity, such as shattered windows and cracked walls. Approximately three people sustained injuries in the incident. Local police confirmed that the driver was hospitalized for injuries sustained during the accident.
Authorities worked to control the blaze, and traffic on the expressway has gradually begun to return to normal.
