In response to recent disturbances in Nigeria’s national power grid, the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has formed a six-member forensic investigation committee. This decision follows a series of incidents, including a partial grid collapse on October 14 due to issues at the Jebba and Osogbo transmission substations. While there was speculation about a complete grid failure, officials clarified that many reported incidents were more accurately described as grid disturbances rather than collapses.
The committee’s mandate includes identifying the root causes of these disturbances, assessing potential sabotage, and reviewing the overall stability of the national grid. It will also recommend necessary investments and technical improvements to enhance the grid’s resilience. The committee is led by Engr. Nafisat Ali, Executive Director of the Independent System Operator, and includes experts from various related sectors. They are expected to deliver their findings by November 1, 2024.
