The Nigerian Army has intensified its efforts to dismantle the operations of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in a series of coordinated raids. Recently, troops of the 82 Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, stormed an IPOB/ESN hideout in Anambra and Enugu States. The operation resulted in the rescue of hostages, seizure of firearms, and destruction of the group’s hideouts.
The military’s actions disrupted the activities of IPOB, which has been involved in enforcing illegal sit-at-home orders and perpetrating violence in the Southeast region. Notably, a key ESN commander was apprehended during one of the operations, and several dangerous weapons, including firearms and ammunition, were recovered from their camps. Additionally, in a separate operation, a gunrunner supplying arms to IPOB and Ambazonian separatists in Cameroon was arrested in Cross River State.
