In response to the ongoing fuel price hikes, the Nigerian government has launched a payment portal to facilitate the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
Under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, this initiative is aimed at reducing the country’s reliance on expensive petrol by promoting a cleaner, more affordable alternative. The CNG conversion program offers vehicle owners flexible payment plans, allowing more Nigerians to transition to CNG without facing financial hardship upfront.
This move follows the recent spike in fuel prices, with petrol now selling for as high as N1,030 per liter in some parts of the country. Many motorists have expressed interest in the conversion scheme as fuel costs continue to squeeze household incomes and increase transportation costs nationwide.
The CNG initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to ease the economic burden on Nigerians while promoting environmental sustainability. The initiative has been lauded as a long-term solution to Nigeria’s energy challenges, but its success will depend on public participation and infrastructure development.
