President Bola Tinubu has taken swift action to address a week-long blackout that has impacted multiple northern states in Nigeria, disrupting daily life and economic activities. Tinubu met with Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, instructing them to expedite repairs to the damaged Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines. The President emphasized that restoring electricity is critical, especially as the blackout is affecting key urban areas like Kaduna and Kano.
Tinubu also ordered increased security measures to protect the infrastructure and personnel involved in repairs, deploying military support to prevent further sabotage. The outage is reportedly due to significant vandalism and destruction of public assets, which Tinubu condemned as “deliberate sabotage”
Traditional and community leaders in the affected areas have also been urged to cooperate with authorities in safeguarding public infrastructure to prevent further disruptions. This directive underscores Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining stability in the North, emphasizing that the government will not tolerate the destruction of critical national utilities.
