The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has granted operational licenses for Lagos State’s Blue and Red rail lines. This milestone will allow the state to fully commence commercial operations on both lines, which are part of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s (LAMATA) plan to improve public transportation in the city.
The Blue Line, which stretches from Marina to Okokomaiko, and the Red Line, running from Agbado to Oyingbo, are key components of efforts to reduce traffic congestion and enhance mobility across Lagos, Africa’s most populous city. The operational licenses mark a significant step towards easing the city’s notorious traffic problems and providing residents with faster and more efficient transport options.
These projects are expected to significantly improve the daily commute for millions of Lagosians, reducing travel time and offering a more reliable alternative to road transport. With these rail lines now set to be operational, the state government aims to boost economic productivity and promote sustainable urban growth.
