Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that he unknowingly suffered from partial deafness for years. While visiting the Emir of Bauchi, Obasanjo explained that he only realized his condition after undergoing a medical checkup abroad, which revealed a 25% hearing loss. Shockingly, his Chief Security Officer, who underwent the same test, was found to have an even higher level of hearing impairment.
This experience inspired Obasanjo to launch a major initiative through the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, which provides ear treatment and hearing aids to thousands of Nigerians. In collaboration with the Starkey Hearing Foundation, the initiative is set to distribute hearing aids to about 10,000 indigent people across Nigeria, starting in Bauchi, where 2,000 individuals are expected to benefit.
