
The Ogun State Government has announced plans to construct a modern indoor boxing arena in Abeokuta to honour two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua. The facility, to be named the Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring, is part of the state’s effort to inspire young athletes and celebrate Joshua’s achievements on the global stage.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made the announcement during a special reception for Anthony Joshua. He revealed that the boxing champion has also been appointed as Ogun State’s sports ambassador. In this capacity, Joshua will light the torch for the Gateway Games National Sports Festival, now rescheduled for May 2025.
As a token of appreciation, the state government plans to gift Joshua a house in his hometown of Sagamu. Governor Abiodun encouraged the boxer to collaborate with the state by hosting boxing tournaments and mentoring upcoming talents.
