The Ondo State House of Assembly recently rejected a supplementary budget presented by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The primary reason for the rejection was the absence of the state’s Finance Commissioner, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, who was summoned to defend the budget but failed to appear. Lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction with her failure to attend and decided not to pass the budget until she shows up to explain it.
The proposed supplementary budget, which seeks to adjust the 2024 budget, amounts to N487.4 billion, with N246.2 billion allocated for recurrent expenses and N241.2 billion for capital projects. However, lawmakers felt the lack of representation from the finance ministry was a sign of disrespect, and they threatened to take further action if the commissioner does not attend a future session set for October 17.
The assembly also hinted at issuing a bench warrant if the commissioner continues to ignore their summons.
