
In a tragic incident in Aguleri, Anambra State, an officer from the Otuocha Police Division allegedly shot an unarmed man, igniting anger and sparking immediate protests from local youths. The shooting reportedly took place during a routine patrol, where an officer is alleged to have fired at an innocent man under unclear circumstances. Witnesses claim that the officer responsible fled the scene, leaving the community devastated and seeking justice.
Following the shooting, local youths gathered outside the Otuocha Police Division to protest the killing, some even attempting to storm the police station in outrage. The crowd was dispersed as law enforcement reinforcements arrived to prevent an escalation. The protests reportedly led to minor injuries among both civilians and police officers as tensions continued to rise.
The Anambra State Police Command has since responded, announcing that the officer and the patrol team involved have been detained pending a full investigation. Commissioner of Police Echeng Echeng ordered the immediate suspension of those involved and vowed that anyone found guilty of misconduct would face justice. The Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the detention and emphasized that the investigation would be transparent and swift to ensure accountability.
