The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu. This suspension stems from allegations of anti-party activities, particularly their involvement in a letter to the Court of Appeal regarding a case involving 27 former Rivers State lawmakers who defected to the APC. The NWC viewed this as a direct violation of the party’s constitution, leading to their removal from all PDP activities pending further investigation by the party’s disciplinary committee.
The internal conflict comes amidst broader tensions within the PDP, with both Damagum and Anyanwu denying any wrongdoing. This suspension follows a growing crisis within the party, which has seen retaliatory suspensions of other officials.
