Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) spokesperson, Benson Upah, has voiced strong criticism of the frequent comparison of fuel prices between Nigeria and other countries. He highlighted that while some claim petrol is more expensive in other nations, they often overlook the crucial factor of those countries’ higher wage levels.
Upah stressed that without factoring in earnings, these comparisons are misleading, particularly in light of Nigeria’s lower wage levels and high inflation. The NLC has also expressed concerns over potential fuel price increases, with fears that the price of petrol could reach as high as ₦5,000 per litre, severely impacting the average Nigerian’s cost of living.
