Today, Wednesday, 13th of November 2024, Mr. @PeterObi, alongside other esteemed Nigerians, attended the launch of “The Noble Academic and Patriot: A Biography of Emeritus Professor Akinjide Osuntokun OON (The Baaptian of Oyo Kingdom)” at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos. Mr. Peter Obi expressed that while our nation is often focused on celebrating individuals who do not represent our best values, it is truly refreshing to honor a man like Professor Akinjide Osuntokun. In a society where thuggery and mediocrity have become the norm, celebrating true excellence and dedication is more important than ever.
Professor Akinjide, a distinguished historian, has devoted his life to advancing education, and he has committed his full support to any project that contributes to this cause. He made it clear that, as long as it involves education, he will give his all.
Mr. @PeterObi emphasized that this is what our society should be focusing on—uplifting and recognizing those who make positive contributions. He recalled a conversation with the Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), who spoke about the need for more professors. He pointed out that it is no wonder people are hesitant to pursue academic careers in a society where thugs are celebrated and compensated more generously than educators.
Despite these challenges, Mr. @PeterObi was genuinely pleased to witness the recognition of a professor today, highlighting it as a rare but vital acknowledgment. Inspired by this event, he is more committed than ever to supporting education and academic excellence. He declared that he is ready to devote his energy to promoting the values that can truly transform our nation.
