Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, expressed strong disapproval of the recurring national grid collapses in Nigeria, calling them a “national shame.” He emphasized that these failures severely hinder the country’s economic progress and are a reflection of poor management in the power sector.
Obi urged the federal government to establish a task force made up of competent professionals, not politicians, to address the technical issues plaguing the power grid. He pointed out that avoidable incidents, such as fire outbreaks, contribute to the frequent collapses and must be addressed to improve power availability in the short term.
