LAGOS — Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, on Saturday joined prominent Yoruba leaders, political figures, and pro-democracy advocates at a symposium organized by Afenifere to honour the exceptional legacy of Chief Ayo Adebanjo.
The event, held to commemorate the late elder statesman’s 97th posthumous birthday, was themed “Afenifere – Identity, Ideas and Ideology.” It served as both a tribute and a forum for deep reflection on the group’s historical contributions to the ideals of federalism, social justice, democracy, and good governance.
In his address, Obi lauded the late Chief Adebanjo’s unwavering dedication to the principles of equity, justice, and a truly united Nigeria. He noted that the symposium highlighted not just the legacy of the late Afenifere leader, but also reignited important national conversations about cultural identity, integrity, and visionary leadership.
“The fight for a just, democratic, and equitable Nigeria continues. We must build a nation where the rule of law is sacred and democracy is upheld,” Obi stated.
He ended his speech with a rallying call for unity and hope, affirming: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
