Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has firmly dismissed reports suggesting he plans to leave the party. Obi described the rumors as baseless and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Labour Party.
In a recent statement, Obi declared, “I remain a committed and loyal member of the Labour Party.” His response comes amid speculation following his meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, which had sparked discussions about his political future.
The Labour Party has also denied any internal plans to replace Obi as its flagbearer for the 2027 presidential elections. The party’s Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration reiterated its confidence in Obi’s leadership and restated its resolve to stand by him.
“This is nothing but misinformation,” a Labour Party spokesperson said, adding that Obi remains central to the party’s vision and strategy.
Obi’s statement and the Labour Party’s clarification underscore his continued dedication to the party’s ideals and his commitment to building a stronger and more unified political platform.
The speculation about Obi’s political allegiance has been widely dismissed as an attempt to create division within the Labour Party. Obi, however, has reassured his supporters that he remains focused on his mission to drive positive change in Nigeria.
