Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the increasing incidence of kidnappings across Nigeria, emphasizing that no one is currently spared from this menace.
In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi highlighted the pervasive impact of insecurity on various sectors, including agriculture, health, and education. He noted that farmers are being chased out of their farmlands, and critical workers such as teachers and health professionals are often kidnapped or killed.
Obi cited recent incidents to underscore his concerns, mentioning the killing of the Manager of the College of Nursing Sciences in Ihiala and the kidnapping of two Reverend Sisters in Anambra State. He emphasized that these individuals contribute significantly to national development through their sacrifices in remote villages.
He called on the government to deploy all available security resources to address this menace and ensure the safe rescue of those in captivity. Additionally, Obi appealed to the perpetrators to abandon their criminal activities, stating, “We must not burn down our only nation with terror and violence.”
Obi’s remarks come amid a series of abductions, including the kidnapping of two Catholic reverend sisters by unknown gunmen in Anambra State.
