Alex Ikwechegh, a Nigerian House of Representatives member from Abia State, was recently charged in an assault case involving a Bolt driver named Stephen Abuwatseya. Ikwechegh allegedly insulted and slapped the driver multiple times during a dispute at his residence in Maitama, Abuja, reportedly using derogatory language and threatening him with detention. Video footage of the incident sparked public outrage, with many calling for his suspension and for further investigations into his behavior.
Bolt has expressed concern over the incident, stating that they are investigating and supporting their driver-partner. The Nigerian Police Force has also launched an investigation after the driver filed a report. Meanwhile, Ikwechegh was granted bail at N500,000 and released under police conditions as the investigation continues.
