President Bola Tinubu has made significant changes to Nigeria’s federal ministries by scrapping the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Ministry of Sports Development. This decision, taken during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, will see the creation of a Ministry of Regional Development to oversee regional commissions like the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Meanwhile, the National Sports Commission will now handle the responsibilities previously held by the sports ministry. Other ministries, such as Tourism, have been merged with Culture and Creative Economy.
