President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a lighthearted remark suggesting that he could dismiss the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gains the upper hand in the upcoming FCT elections.
Speaking at a dinner to celebrate Eid-Al-Fitr, Tinubu jested that Wike’s position might be at risk if the election results favored the PDP instead of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “If this thing goes too much in your own favor, you will lose your job,” Tinubu quipped, drawing laughter from attendees.
The statement comes amid heightened political competition in the FCT, where both the APC and PDP are vying for dominance. While the remark was made in a joking manner, it reflects the strategic importance of the elections and the political balancing act Wike, a prominent PDP figure, must navigate under the APC-led administration.
The upcoming FCT elections are expected to be closely watched, with analysts noting that the results could influence political dynamics in the nation’s capital. Neither Wike nor the presidency has issued further comments regarding the remark.
