Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, the wife of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has made an urgent plea to the UK government to intervene for her husband’s release from Nigerian custody. She expressed her son’s pain and longing for his father’s presence, highlighting that the absence has deeply affected their family.
In her message, she appealed to the UK’s historical commitment to human rights and fairness, urging them to advocate for Kanu’s release, particularly given his health issues and the circumstances surrounding his detention. Kanu has been held since June 2021 after being forcibly returned to Nigeria from Kenya, where he had sought refuge.
