The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has announced an official investigation into allegations of homosexual misconduct involving two of its ministers, Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa. The decision, conveyed in an official church memo, comes amid growing concerns and debates within the community regarding the seriousness of these accusations. In response, the RCCG suspended the two pastors from their positions pending a full investigation, underscoring the church’s commitment to maintaining its moral and doctrinal standards.
In a statement signed by the National Overseer, Pastor Sunday Akande, the church called on anyone with credible information to assist in the investigation by submitting relevant evidence. The RCCG has also made contact information publicly available for this purpose. Pastor AdeBello, one of the accused, responded to the allegations by denying any involvement in homosexual activities, stating that his silence on the issue had been misinterpreted as an admission of guilt.
According to AdeBello, the accusations were initially shared on social media, particularly by the popular blog Gist Lover, which he suggested may have misrepresented facts to drive online traffic. AdeBello also clarified that a WhatsApp group conversation he moderated, meant to discuss self-esteem and reproductive health with teenage males, had been taken out of context. The pastor expressed his dismay at how a single, supportive conversation could be misconstrued, affirming his innocence and insisting he has never solicited or engaged in any inappropriate relationships with minors.
The RCCG has stated that the investigation will proceed with transparency and integrity, aligning with the church’s biblical principles and its commitment to addressing any credible accusations. The outcome of this inquiry remains to be seen, but RCCG has assured members and the public of its resolve to handle the matter with the gravity it deserves.
