The Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Edison Ehie, has alleged that he was offered N5 billion to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara while serving as the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly.
Allegation of Bribery
Ehie made the revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, stating that the alleged offer was made in October 2023. He claimed to have evidence of the bribe attempt, which he has documented and shared for security purposes. However, he did not disclose the identities of those behind the alleged offer.
Denial of Assembly Bombing Accusations
Ehie also refuted allegations made by former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, who accused him of orchestrating the October 30, 2023, bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex on the governor’s behalf. The Chief of Staff dismissed the claims as false and politically motivated, insisting that he only learned about the incident when it was reported to the public.
Legal Action Against Nwaeke
In response to the accusations, Ehie has announced plans to take legal action against Nwaeke for criminal libel, stating that his legal team has been instructed to proceed with the lawsuit.
Political Tensions in Rivers State
The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where a power struggle persists between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
As political developments continue to unfold, observers are closely monitoring the potential impact on governance and stability in the state.
