Rúben Amorim has revealed the circumstances behind his decision to join Manchester United, sharing that he initially requested to stay with Sporting CP until the season’s end. However, United’s management insisted on an immediate move, presenting him with a “now or never” ultimatum.
“I asked Man United if I could join at the end of the season,” Amorim explained. “It was what I wanted, but Man United said no. It was now or never.”
Faced with a tough choice, Amorim ultimately accepted the offer to take the reins at Old Trafford. “So I had to make a decision, and I said yes,” he added, marking the end of a successful tenure at Sporting where he earned acclaim for his tactical approach and leadership.
Amorim’s mid-season departure is a significant change for both Sporting and Manchester United, with United fans eager to see what the Portuguese manager brings to the club as he takes on one of the most demanding roles in European football.
