President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Scott Turner, a former NFL player and experienced political aide, to lead the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Turner previously served as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during Trump’s first term, where he collaborated with federal agencies and local communities on economic development initiatives. He is also a former Texas state representative and CEO of the Community Engagement and Opportunity Council, focusing on revitalizing distressed communities.
If confirmed, Turner will take over at a time when HUD policies, including affordable housing access and homelessness solutions, are highly debated. His appointment is expected to align with the administration’s emphasis on public-private partnerships and potential regulatory reforms, such as work requirements for housing aid.
