With just weeks remaining before the Ondo State governorship election, Mrs. Susan Gbemisola Alabi, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) deputy governorship candidate, announced her resignation from the party and the election ticket. In a letter dated October 2, 2024, Alabi formally informed both SDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, and the party’s National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, about her decision to step down. Alabi cited her decision as a personal choice aimed at pursuing new opportunities, although there were reports suggesting irreconcilable differences with Akingboye.
Alabi’s resignation was unexpected, and her future political plans were initially undisclosed. However, she has since joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding another dynamic to the upcoming election. The SDP has not yet named a replacement for Alabi as they prepare for the poll.
