Catholic missionary priest, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, currently serving in The Gambia, has issued a scathing rebuke to Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, over the deteriorating security situation in the state.
In a post that has since gone viral, Fr. Ugwu criticized Governor Alia for failing to act decisively against the wave of killings that have rocked Benue communities, accusing him of applying double standards in his leadership.
> “The same way you blocked Peter Obi from entering the state, please intercept the killers too. Use the same energy,” Fr. Ugwu said in a sharply worded social media post that’s gaining traction online.
This comes after reports of renewed attacks in parts of Benue, where several lives have been lost in recent weeks. Many residents have blamed the government for silence and inaction, while the killings continue unchecked.
Fr. Ugwu’s comment alludes to a controversial incident in which opposition politician Peter Obi was allegedly prevented from visiting the state under questionable circumstances — an act many believed was politically motivated.
Now, Fr. Ugwu is calling out what he sees as misplaced priorities.
“We have a priest as a governor, and yet blood continues to flow. Where is the conscience? Where is the compassi
on?” he added.
