The Supreme Court of Nigeria has officially removed Julius Abure from his position as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, bringing an end to months of internal leadership crisis within the party.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, the apex court upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, which found procedural breaches in Abure’s continued stay in office following his suspension by a faction of the party’s leadership.
The judgment effectively strips Abure of his chairmanship and mandates the Labour Party to appoint a replacement in line with its constitution and internal democratic processes.
The development is expected to trigger further realignments within the Labour Party as it prepares for upcoming elections and continues to navigate post-2023 political strategy.
Party members and supporters of the Obidient movement are closely monitoring the situation, amid concerns over unity and the party’s future leadership structure. The Supreme Court emphasized the need for internal democracy and strict adherence to party rules.
