Following the recent ruling by the Supreme Court that upheld the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman while dismissing the cross-appeal by the Julius Abure faction, the Labour Party has called for unity and renewed commitment to democratic principles.
Senator Usman, Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, described the judgment as a “victory for the rule of law” and a significant moment for Nigeria’s democracy. She, however, emphasized that the ruling should not be seen as a moment of triumphalism.
“There is no victor and no vanquished,” she said. “What matters most is our shared commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the Labour Party and the Nigerian people.”
Usman urged all members and supporters to unite and refocus their efforts on the party’s core mission: building a New Nigeria anchored on justice, equity, and people-centered governance.
“The Labour Party remains one indivisible family. We must remain calm, focused, and committed to the democratic ideals that bind us,” she added.
The Supreme Court had earlier ruled that the leadership crisis within the Labour Party was an internal affair and beyond the jurisdiction of the judiciary, effectively setting aside the recognition of Julius Abure’s chairmanship by the Court of Appeal.
The party now looks to a new chapter under the direction of the Caretaker Committee as it works to resolve internal divisions and chart a unified path forward.
