Switzerland has officially banned the wearing of face coverings in public spaces, including burqas and niqabs, following a 2021 referendum. The measure, which came into effect in 2022, prohibits full-face veils in areas like streets, public transport, and shops. Exceptions are allowed for religious sites and health-related reasons. Supporters argue the ban promotes security and integration, while critics see it as discriminatory and a violation of individual freedoms. The law aligns with similar policies in countries like France and Belgium.
