Las Vegas, NV – A deadly explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck rocked the area outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on January 1, 2025. The incident claimed the life of the driver, identified as 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger from Colorado Springs, and left seven bystanders injured.
Authorities revealed that the explosion was caused by fireworks, gas tanks, and camping fuel stored in the vehicle, all rigged to a detonation system. The FBI has launched an investigation, treating the incident as a potential act of terrorism. Officials are also exploring possible links to a recent terrorist attack in New Orleans, as both incidents involved vehicles rented via the app Turo.
Two of the injured were transported to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where they are in stable condition. The remaining victims suffered minor injuries and received treatment on-site.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk clarified that the explosion was not the result of a vehicle malfunction. “Telemetry data shows the Cybertruck functioned as designed,” Musk said, adding that Tesla is conducting its own investigation into the matter.
The Trump International Hotel issued a statement emphasizing the safety of its guests and staff. The hotel was evacuated as a precaution, and guests were relocated to alternative accommodations.
President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and has directed law enforcement agencies to prioritize public safety and investigate any connections to other incidents.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
