The president of the Libyan Football Federation, Abdulhakim Al-Shalmani, has resigned following controversy surrounding the treatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles during their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying visit.
The Super Eagles were left stranded at Al Abraq International Airport, which led to accusations that the Libyan authorities were deliberately frustrating the Nigerian team. Al-Shalmani’s resignation comes amid public outcry and heightened tensions between the two nations, though the Libyan Federation has denied any foul play in the incident.
