Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s new Minister of Education, has announced the abolition of the 18-year minimum age requirement for admission into tertiary institutions. This policy change reverses a decision previously implemented under former Minister Tahir Mamman, who had mandated that students must be at least 18 years old to gain entry into higher education.
Dr. Alausa also noted that his administration might explore broader reforms to Nigeria’s education policies to address various challenges facing the sector, such as ensuring educational quality and aligning student readiness with institutional standards.
