TikTok recently deleted 1.7 million videos from Nigerian users in the fourth quarter of 2023 for violating its community guidelines. These violations spanned various categories, including integrity, authenticity, privacy, security, and mental health. Nigeria was among the top 50 countries where such breaches occurred. Globally, TikTok removed 176.5 million videos during the same period.
In addition to video removals, TikTok also took down 169 million fake accounts worldwide, including bot comments and inauthentic engagements like fake likes, followers, and follow requests, which were discovered to be artificially boosting engagement on the platform.
