Nigeria’s government, under President Bola Tinubu, has launched a major initiative to provide conditional cash transfers aimed at alleviating poverty. This program will benefit around 15 million households, or approximately 62 million people, across the country. Each household will receive ₦75,000 over the next three months, with payments targeting vulnerable groups, including those impacted by the removal of fuel subsidies and other economic shocks.
The program is part of Tinubu’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes various interventions to tackle poverty, improve food security, and stimulate economic growth. Additional efforts include affordable housing projects, skills training, and business grants. The initiative is intended to cushion the effects of the rising cost of living and help stabilize Nigeria’s economy, with the World Bank and other development partners providing support.
